We have convened a multidisciplinary team of experts from across Aotearoa. Together, we deliver excellent research to provide actionable knowledge for improved anticipation and management of the impacts of sea-level rise.

Leadership team

Polar ice sheet contribution

Our team is at the forefront of various novel mathematical methods used to evaluate plausible scenarios for future polar ice sheet change, and these results will ultimately contribute to future global sea level projections. Read more.

Vertical land movement

Te Ao Hurihuri Te Ao Hou is continuing research into vertical land movement by measuring and modelling vertical land movement during and between earthquake events to produce estimates of vertical land movement today and into the future. Read more.

Visualising sea-level rise

The new data and outputs from our other research aims will be incorporated into state-of-the-art visualisation tools so that New Zealanders can easily access the new data and ‘see’ the likely change that will occur along our coastal regions. Read more.

Sedimentation and erosion

We are attempting to project future coastal change that will interact with sea-level rise.  Read more.

Coastal hazards

We aim to understand the combination and inter-reaction of elements that contribute to coastal change so as to better identify and assess coastal hazards as they evolve under changing sea level. Read more.

Managing risk and anxiety

We will establish methods to assess, communicate, and mitigate anxiety and risk associated with sea level driven hazards to our coastal environments, communities, and infrastructure. Read more.
