University of Canterbury

Originally from the UK, Andy first worked on earthquake-driven coastal deformation in the eastern Mediterranean, having decided to do a PhD based on the promise of snorkelling and Greek food. He has been in Aotearoa since 2017 and still works on coastal deformation, most recently studying the Kaikōura earthquake and the prehistoric earthquakes affecting the east coast of North Island. In Our Changing Coast, Andy leads the development of probabilistic models that estimate how likely (and by how much) different parts of Aotearoa’s coastline are to be affected by earthquakes in the next 100 years.
