Hayam is originally from Egypt and has a background in civil engineering, with over ten years of experience in engineering project management. After completing her Masters in Environmental Studies from Victoria University of Wellington she pursued a career in an environmental consultancy firm in Egypt as an environmental researcher and social scientist for five years. Her main area of interest is human behaviour from an environmental psychology perspective with a special focus on climate change adaptation. Hayam is currently undertaking her doctoral studies in Victoria University of Wellington which is funded by the Our Changing Coast Project. Her research investigates the predictors of individual climate change adaptation behaviours in New Zealand through a longitudinal study and a behaviour change intervention.
