Dr Kyle Bland is a geologist whose broad research interests integrate the fields of geology, paleobiology, and tectonics.  He has particular expertise in sedimentology, paleoenvironmental analysis, geological mapping, and sequence stratigraphy, and leads Earth Sciences New Zealand’s ‘Coastal Change and Adaptation’ research project.  Kyle is an active proponent, participant, and leader of outreach activities targeting a wide sector of the general public — particularly school children and their teachers, and iwi — in the Te Hiku / Far North, eastern North Island, and Taranaki regions, including via the award-winning “GeoCamp” and “Tūhura Papatūānuku Geo Noho” initiatives.  Kyle is contributing to the OCC programme through characterising coastline erosion in western North Island, and potential case-studies with coastal communities in northern Aotearoa.
